NEW NATIONAL RTI HELPLINE The new number will be (080) 666-00-999. This is operational from May 1, 2007. As earlier, the Helpline will offer information in three languages English, Hindi and Tamil and will be open seven days a week from 8 am to 8 pm. The shift has occurred because mphasis, a BPO company, has come forward to support the initiative by running the Helpline at a highly subsidised cost. The Helpline has received over 7500 calls to date from across the country. However, you can also go directly to RTI INDIA RTI Helpline and contact the RTI Activist directly. NEW DELHI: In a country of over a billion people, only 31.5 million people pay taxes, and this is after the number of taxpayers has grown by nearly 11 percent between March 2002 and March 2006. In response to a Right to Information (RTI) query by seasoned RTI campaigner P. Hari Kumar, 24, of Kasaragod in north Kerala, the finance ministry has said that the number of taxpayers has increased from 28.4 million in 2002 to 31.5 million in 2006.
