if you really have a land and know its location , then you can go that village and find out the details from panchayat/ revenue officials about survey number, area of the plot and they will advise you what to do further.

You might be having a tax paid receipt or atleast a document no. and date of Registration. If you have a copy of Registration you may get duplicate certified copy. If you have earlier sold any part of land or obtained a Bank loan, they may be having Survey number. If nothing exists, you have to get a search in concerned Revenue office of the village through village revenue officer.

I had asked about a lawyer being present when I am being shown documents by a bank. Actually what I had in mind was an income tax consultant or a chartered accountant being present because they can advise me regarding framing further queries. I have now been told that since I have asked the question, they will show the document only to me and not to an outsider - not even anyone from the bank itself. They want to know under what section of the RTI Act, I am asking for an outsider to be present.
