It pertains to Information solicited only and if you are using computer. First type the information solicited and check no of words and write within brackets such number.

File multiple applications, issue wise and also specifically state the reasons for filing multiple applications. (As number of words of information solicited exceeded 150 words multiple applications of....filed, information solicited is different in each application)

This limit is applicable to only Karnataka State information where there is restriction of one subject and 150 words for queries in each application. If more than one subject matter is included then PIO will reply first subject. You can submit multiple RTI if query exceeds 150 words and mail in one envelope to save postal charges.

Limit of 500 words for central govt information is not effective, since CPIO cannot refuse application if it exceeds 500 words excluding address of CPIO and applicant etc.

The limit of 150 words is also applicable to Maharashtra. Moreover, as per notification dated 16/1/2012, the request shall be on one subject only. If the request is for more than one subject, the PIO may respond to the subject of the first request. Applicant may make separate RTI applications to seek information on separate subjects.

RTI application will only contain one or two line querries and is not an essay as you write , you can get to know how to reduce the words. 150 words is quiet sufficient.

No one knows !

I tried finding out from Karnataka / Maharashtra for 150 words and the Centre for 500 words....but not a single officer knows !

Even the file notes related to those decisions have been inspected - and there is nothing mentioned even in file notings.

Either the calibre / competence of those officers who drafted the Rules is very low OR they have deliberately not clarified it so that PIOs have another return to reject a RTI application.

NO.

Delhi follows the Central RTI Rules...which have a word limit of 500 words - but with the clause that no application will be rejected solely on the grounds that it is more than 500 words.

JP Saab, whether it is one point or one page, the attitude of PIOs remain the same. Then they have opportunity to submit that information is vast and ask the appliant to inspect the records. We all know that all important information is severed and we can not question them. They only say what is available with us was produced. Unfortunately even filing is so awkward, in one PSU they maintain one file and keep each letter in one file for years irrespective of subject. So for tracing a letter you have to search minimum 100 files with frequent visits by PIO asking is it over now ? Ultimately you can secure even single relevant document after searching for 5 hours without a rest.
