Dear member, You should not ask any questions to PIO eliciting answers. Your right is only to seek and obtain information held by and under the control of the Public Authority in material form. If you put queries before the PIO eliciting answers, PIO may reply that the applicant has not sought any material information held by the public authority. RTI Act is also not a tool to settle Grievances. These are to be decided on merit by appropriate authority of each Public Authority.

Instead of asking question : "Who is the Collector of Pune?" , seek information like this - Please inform me the name of present District Collector, Pune.

There is a limit of 500 words in the Central RTI Rules.

Some State RTI rules have a limit of 150 words and only ONE subject matter.

Hon. Karira has stated some states limit and Gujarat was not mentioned in it.

However some states have issue wise queries also.

It is always proper to file RTI applications issue wise.

Draft the applications in brief, precise, pinpointing the specific record.

Though one has to pay RTI fees more, if information is important, fees may not matter.

The ideal RTI Application should not exceed A 4 size paper with solicited information in double space.

There were several complaints on hearing that ICs focus on one or two major points alone, and giving time as per contents is not still considered. The maximum time through VC or PH is ten minutes and 5 minutes are wasted only for repeating names of applicants and PIOS and writing by IC himself. Infact this attendance is completed at the office of IC by Dy.Registrar, and ICs need not waste time on once again writing names. (Particularly when the names are South Indian, it takes many minutes to tell the name and spelling)
