Mobile phones given to employees in autonomous government of India institute

Question

rmpraj

Hi friends!

I am an officer in the Administration of an autonomous research institute coming under the government of India. Many employees in our organization have been given mobile phones. The bills as well as the cost of the instrument are borne by the management.

I would like to know whether the same practice exists in other similar government organizations, and what are the eligibility criteria for an employee to be given a mobile phone.

Thanks in advance!

You will have to approach the DoP&T for guidelines & orders, regulating the purchase & provision of mobile phones for staff members. Generally the staff in the cadre of Jt. Secretary and above can be provided with mobile hand set. The ceiling for these handsets is Rs.10,000/-.

There are a few savings for certain public authorities.

Best wishes

Manoj

Thank you for your reply Mr Manoj Pai.

The Ministry of Finance, Department of Expenditure Office Memorandum dated January 14, 2004 gives clear information on this. I located this OM in the Web, and have uploaded it with this reply.

Thanks.
