Can an IT initiative like 'Know Your Police' by Gujarat reduce RTI Applications?

Initiatives such as mobile application which facilitates citizen have the potential of reducing the RTI Application. Gujarat is developing such mobile app called 'Know Your Police' which will facilitate citizens.

    Know your police

GANDHINAGAR: The Gujarat home department is developing a new digital service for citizens called “Know Your Police” (KYP), through which citizens can access details about their local police station and police personnel.

Details about the police officials concerned, maps and other thing will also be available online. Citizens can lodge grievances directly on the web and get copies of FIRs online easily. The state government also plans to make 100 services — including applying for a liquor permit — available on the app. All police clearances for things like road shows and public events will be possible through the mobile app.

A senior officer in the home department said, “KYP will be citizen friendly. Right now even educated citizens don’t know their local police or who to approach or where to go for various services. Most citizens don’t know which police station has jurisdiction over their area. Through KYP citizens can find the police station concerned by using their location. KYP will have all data on police staff with contact details, so those trying to cheat people in the name of the police can also be found out.”
