Mysuru, June 22:- Beware of quacks! If you are unwell and need to visit a doctor, better be careful. Or else, you may be risking your life. Recent RTI information reveals that fake clinics and doctors are mushrooming alarmingly in the district.
The report has said that that 119 fake clinics, 169 polyclinics and 59 fake nursing homes and 496 BAMS doctors are functioning in the district. Though BAMS doctors have to prescribe only Ayurvedic medicine, they are prescribing allopathic medicines also. On their part, District Health Officers have maintained a stoic silence over the issue. In the event of a medical disaster, negligence cases are not being filed against the concerned doctor or the clinic.
Several deaths and casualties have been reported over the years but the guilty have escaped without being punished. Mysore District has 496 BAMS doctors, who are far more than MBBS doctors. A quack had recently told a woman she was carrying which turned out to be wrong. In another case, a student died after he was treated by a quack at HD Kote six months back. Incidentally, the student was given a wrong injection.
Hundreds of fake clinics and fake doctors are functioning around KR Hospital in the city. Fake polyclinics and medical shops are also rapidly increasing in the city day-by-day.
