    Story behind RTI | Shankar Singh

    This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. What democracy would it be without transparency? What if the public would have never been able to question it's government? But Shankar Singh did not let it happen. He along with Aruna Roy and Nikhil Dey co-founded MKSS, non registered NGO, which successfully fought it's way demanding for RTI in India. A
    Bhilwara Shanker Singh, aged 55, is one of the founder members of the MKSS along with Aruna Roy and Nikhil Dey. Acknowledged to be one of India's leading figures in people's theatre, he has combined over two decades of activism with the power of people's communication through street theatre, puppetry, song, and drama to strengthen the voice of the poor. Through his uncanny, incisive wit and his keen political insight, he instinctively communicates complex issues in an idiom familiar to the people. "These days, Amir Khan is a big fan of Mr. Shankar Singh", said Mr. Bunker Roy. He had recently been featured on Amir Khan's show, Satyamev Jayate -- Season 2 for his admirable work in the field of RTI activation at grassroots level.

His art of using RTI Act as a tool to plug loopholes and corruption in system, is being keenly observed in judicial, legislative and bureaucratic circles. Not only Supreme Court judges declared their assets and wealth on website as an after-effect of his much talked-about RTI petition, Delhi High Court upheld Subhash Agarwal's plea for Chief Justice of India being under purview of RTI Act. On Walk The Talk, he talks about his struggle for justice and his experiences in reforming the authorities through the power of RTI.
