rti activism: Manhole covers go missing in many busy areas in Mumbai as skies open
akhilesh yadav posted a topic in RTI in Media
Kings Circle resident Nikhil Desai said in April he had file a Right to Information (RTI) seeking details of manhole covers in F-North ward which have been missing. "To my surprise, on 12 roads alone, 20 manhole covers are missing. When I checked with the local ward office, I was told that the stock of covers was over and they had asked for more from the department concerned. Why can't we standardize the covers to one size? We can also ask other corporations for covers considering we cannot wait to let a mishap happen and then take measures. I had asked for this information in April but unfortunately still covers on several roads in Matunga are either missing or have concrete covers on the hole which is open," he said. Hello, Whom to approach for tree trimming in Churchgate area in Mumbai?

Is there a way that new municipal commisioner, Ajoy Mehta, can bring joy to Mumbaikars? I believe the first task for him is to revise the draft development plan 2034. The plan has been four years in the making and to most of us activists, it appears as if all that the French consultants hired by the BMC have done is to view the Google map of Mumbai and propose illogical roads and amenities. They have not considered a majority of heritage and religious structures. Moreover, they should have consulted with the citizens, elected representatives, MPs, MLAs and corporators. This does not seem to have happened as the former elected representatives feign complete ignorance of the many errors in DP plan 2034. One wonders why they did not attempt to find out what was being proposed in their area for the last four years. I hope the new government and the municipal commissioner rectify and revise the plan.Read more at; Redefining Mumbai | Latest News & Updates at Daily News & Analysis
