In its reply, the ministry said the total expenditure incurred on the event stood at Rs 9,35,34,303. The reply was received on July 6. The Haryana Roadways is in the red even as the number of passengers travelling by its fleet increased to 4,527 lakh from 3,977 in 2008. The annual losses to the state roadways increased to Rs 482.48 crore in 2014-15 from Rs 115.29 core in 2007-08. The state government was planning to increase the number of buses in the fleet from existing 4,800 to 6,000, but the increasing loss is a major concern as not even a single depot and sub-depot of the state is in profit. As per the information procured by social activist Sanjeev Sharma under the Right to Information (RTI) Act , all 24 depots and 13 sub-depots of the state transport have been in the loss for the past three years, even as 4,829 buses of the roadways cover 13 lakh km every day, carrying 13.6 lakh passengers to their respective destinations.Read more at; Haryana Roadways in red, annual loss increases to over Rs 482 crore -

State-run LIC, which annually invests about Rs 50,000 crore in equities, did not respond to a detailed questionnaire sent by ET. ET could not independently ascertain the period during which the investments under the scanner were made. The finance ministry also refused to divulge any further information under Section 8 (1)(h) of the RTI Act 2005, which states that providing information will impede the process of investigation or apprehension or prosecution of offenders. GURGAON: The Delhi-Gurgaon expressway concessionaire, MCEPL, has sought a refund of Rs 78 crore from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for loss of revenue, which was caused following the directive of the Punjab and Haryana high court in September 2012. According to the court orders, the erstwhile concessionaire, DGSCL (Delhi-Gurgaon Super Connectivity Limited), was barred from increasing the toll rates in 2012-13 and 2013-14 and toll collection was suspended for 15 days in September 2012 that allegedly caused revenue loss to the company. The claims belong to the years 2012-13 and 2013-14 before Millennium City Expressways Pvt Ltd (MCEPL) took over toll opeartions, but according to MCEPL, since it inherited assets and liabilities from its predecessor, it has a rightful claim to the receivables as well. NAGPUR: A query by RTI activist Abhay Kolarkar revealed that the jail authorities earned over Rs2.62 crore in last two years through various works done through its nearly 900 inmates. It has a total of 881 prisoners with 842 men and 39 women. Of them 15, including a woman, are on death row while four are foreigners. VASCO: The office of civil registrar cum sub-registrar and notary ex-officio, Mormugao, has turned out to be one of the major revenue contributors to the state government’s coffers by generating a revenue of around ` 8.18 crore during the year 2014-15. “` 2,715 was collected in form of fees for queries under the Right to Information Act, 2005. Most often the RTI revenue is spent on providing photocopies to the applicants and so the revenue doesn’t count as income,” he said. According to the RTI reply, the six vends along NH-8, which were closed down after the HC order, would have deposited Rs 14.68 crore in fee for this financial year. The 17 shops that were shifted from the highway would deposit Rs 29.25 crore in licence fee, an increase of Rs 3 crore from the Rs 26.25 crore collected last year. So the total licence fee collection from these 23 vends for 2015-16 would stand at Rs 29 crore, which is a loss of Rs 11 crore from last year. NEW DELHI: Government has released about Rs 35.75 crores on the transit accommodation of Members of Parliament between 1990-91 and 2013-14. Sources said the outstanding bill from ITDC-run hotels and state guest houses would be another Rs 20-25 crore. In an RTI response to Delhi resident Ved Pal, the urban development ministry has said, "No separate data of expenditure on transit accommodation after even general election is maintained." However, it maintains the details of expenditure incurred during each financial year and the year-wise details were shared in the RTI reply. "While the bill on account of such transit accommodation is raised within a year of any general election, we release the payment when we have the budget. Information sourced by the CCFI under the Right to Information (RTI) Act has established that most farms claiming to be organic do use chemical pesticides regularly to protect their crops; yet they market and sell their produce under the ‘100% organic’ label. The Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi, revealed its findings on pesticide residues in organic vegetables. According to Dr K K Sharma of the IARI laboratory, in the analysis, 33% of organic products, sold in Delhi over the last two years contained pesticides. Haryana Paid Rs. 5.5 Crore as Legal Fees For a Single Case NEW DELHI: To fight high-profile cases, state and Central governments often hire senior lawyers. But the previous Haryana government under chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda of the Congress was billed an unusually high amount - a whopping Rs. 5.5 crore - to prosecute workers accused of violence at Maruti's plant in Manesar, in the western part of the state. More than 150 workers were arrested - almost all are still in jail - in an outbreak of violence at the Manesar plant of the carmaker in 2012, in A Right to Information (RTI) application accessed by NDTV has revealed that senior counsel and now Congress Rajya Sabha MP KTS Tulsi was appointed by the state as a Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) in the Maruti case. Mr Tulsi charged Rs. 11 lakh for a single appearance in the Gurgaon Additional District and Sessions Court. The RTI reply also details other fees, including that of Mr Tulsi's three assistants - Rs. 66,000 for each appearance - and "clerkage" of over Rs. 1 lakh for his expenses - a total of over Rs. 5 crore in just two years. Mr Tulsi, who has been a Congress Rajya Sabha MP since February 2014, said the violence had caused great alarm in Manesar, the state's industrial hub, and that he was approached by the Haryana government to represent it. But even for a high-profile case, that is a large sum for any government to pay as legal fees to its special prosecutors, especially for a trial in a lower court. In contrast to Mr Tulsi's fees, the special prosecutor in the coal scam case is paid approximately Rs. 33,000 for each hearing. When NDTV persisted with its questions about his fees, Mr Tulsi lost his temper. "I don't want to discuss my fees," he snapped and added: "I will not let you discuss it. It was an agreement between the Haryana government and me. I don't have to justify it." Vrinda Grover, who represents the Maruti workers in the Supreme Court, said it was hard to see how such a major expense was in public interest. "It's the choice of the state who it appoints as SPP, but to use public money for a sum such as this, we can look around to see if that is appropriate," she said. The Haryana Congress couldn't be reached for comment. The new BJP government in Haryana says hiring Mr Tulsi is an example of the old regime's excesses. "The government has its own battery of 85 law officers," said Bhupeshwar Dayal, Officer on Special Duty to Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. "Yet, a questionable amount of money was paid to KTS Tulsi by the Hooda government. We're looking into it." In December last year, Mr Tulsi was dropped from the case. Even as the previous administration is asked to justify spending such an unprecedented amount of public funds on trying its own workers, the BJP must decide on whether Mr Tulsi will get the remainder of his dues - Rs. 65 lakh - still owed for his services.
