rti happenings: Odisha: 17 years on, over 400 complaints filed, yet Prabir denied his due share of pension
akhilesh yadav posted a topic in RTI in MediaPrabir says, "For 10 years after retirement I received a provisional pension of Rs 735 per month but since July 2007, the provisional pension has also been stopped. I appealed for help with the Director of Health, Chief Secretary, the Chief District Medical Officer, Pension Secretary and others. Yet there was no change in the scene and hence I filed an RTI to know all details." He adds, "With the help of RTI he came to know that the provisional pension drawn in his name was also faulty. While the department withdrew a sum of Rs 1,200 as provisional pension on my head I only received Rs 735. On questioning the same, I was asked to accept whatever is being given or else the sum would be deposited in the treasury account.”Read at: 17 years on, over 400 complaints filed, yet Prabir denied his due share of pension

akhilesh yadav posted a topic in RTI in MediaInformation sourced by the CCFI under the Right to Information (RTI) Act has established that most farms claiming to be organic do use chemical pesticides regularly to protect their crops; yet they market and sell their produce under the ‘100% organic’ label. The Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi, revealed its findings on pesticide residues in organic vegetables. According to Dr K K Sharma of the IARI laboratory, in the analysis, 33% of organic products, sold in Delhi over the last two years contained pesticides. karira posted a topic in RTI in Media1,000 HIV+ cases in Maharashtra due to infected blood transfusion MUMBAI: The National Aids Control Organisation, in an RTI response, has revealed that nearly 1,000 people contracted the human immunodeficiency (HIV) virus in Maharashtra due to transfusion of infected blood over the past five years. The state has earned the dubious third position after Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat to report this alarming trend, raising a serious question over the quality of blood transfused to unsuspecting patients. The shocking disclosure comes at a time when the HIV-fighting agencies have had people believe that transfusion-transmitted infection has almost been eliminated. The RTI response showed that between April and October 2014, around 629 people across the country, including 80 in the state, got HIV through blood transfusion. The cumulative count for the past five years is 8,983 people who got HIV through blood transfusion in India. The data collected from Integrated Counselling and Testing Centres (ICTC) through voluntary disclosure of clients, though, has raised a storm among the HIV-fighting agencies at the state and the Centre. While officials have questioned its veracity, activists insist the numbers expose the glaring lack of accountability when it comes to ensuring quality of blood supplied by blood banks. Interestingly, nodal agencies such as the State Blood Transfusion Council (SBTC) and the Maharashtra State Aids Control Society (MSACS) have put the onus on each other to ensure blood banks play by the rule and detect every HIV case.
