  1. I was working for a Bangalore based IT company between 1999 and 2004. I left the organization on 31-mar-2004. I didn't remember whether I withdrew my EPF amount of the organization. But I am sure I didn't transfer the amount to my next employer. Of late, I applied for my EPF withdrawal through the Bangalore organization. I got a letter from EPF Office, K.R. Puram, Bangalore stating that the claim was settled on 24-Jun-04. Unfortunately I am not able to recall it. I checked my ICICI bank transaction history of 2004. I didn't find any clue of having received the EPF amount. Now I have the following queries. 1) The claim was settled within three months since I left the Bangalore Organization (31-Mar-2004). I was told that if someone wanted to withdraw their EPF before retirement, they need to wait for a few months since they left the organization and only the claim can be processed. In my case, it had been settled within three month since I left the Bangalore organization. Is it possible? 2) Now I want to know the full details of My EPF account of the Bangalore organization like what was the balance amount available in the account when I left the organization and If the settlement is done, how the EPF amount was sent to me (through DD/directly credited in my bank account). How to get this details? Please help me. I am looking forward to response

  4. Sir, I had an EPF account with my previous employer.I left the job in 2002 to join in the service of a District co-operative bank. Then I applied for the withdrawal withdrawal of my EPF excluding Pension fund and presumed that I would get PF pension from my 50 th birthday. But it is not happening.I would like to know: 1. My new EPF account number ( I know only the old number like KR/KL/ 311/... ) 2. The current balance in my EPF account and pension fund account. 3. Am I eligible to get the EPF pension? If yes, what are the procedures to follow. 4. If I receive the EPF pension, any problem to receive pension from my present employer? 5. The status of my account and the current balance. Kindly let me know the exact questions to ask.

    RTI fees and word limit

Dear members, I'm trying to use RTI to solve a pesky Employees Provident Fund (EPF) transfer issue. The posts on this forum have been most instructive. However I still have the following doubts: 1. The office concerned is in Gurgaon, Haryana. The prescribed RTI fees for this. It is well known that the standard rate for RTI queries is Rs. 10. However, Haryana appears to be an exception and mandates the payment of Rs. 50. But then again, EPF appears to come under the Central Government's Labour Ministry. What fee should I send with my application? 2. Can an RTI application be rejected if I send Rs. 50 when the fee was Rs. 10? 3. Is there any word limit on the length of an RTI application? Thanks in advance.

  13. Hi All, Just wanted to share my experience/feedback with all. I submitted the form 13 for transfer of PF accumulations from my previous company to Sapient PF account is 2010. Until January 2012 (More than 1.5 years), I tried various modes including email and telephone to get an update on my transfer status but always got one of the following reasons: The claim is under process and will be settled soon. Systems are not working so we cannot provide information. Please call us later Please call on other number. Please call us after 2 days. We shall update you. Claim will be settled soon. Due to computerization we are facing technical issues. Claim will be settled soon as we have received your form. Finally, I decided to file a grievance. On which I did not receive any response for 2 months after sending reminder I got a response “account is settled and payment under process.” No details of amount/payments were given. Also they closed the grievance. I filled a separate grievance to get the full response to the above grievance. And received a response in a month’s time stating “ The amount of Rs. x had been approved and transferred” This amount X was just 20-25% of my accumulations. I was surprised. Also they closed the grievance. I was shocked to know that. I again filled the grievance asking for clarification along with the calculations But did not received any response even after 4-5 reminders. Also when checked with the RPFO Gurgaon and Sapient PF trust their response was “We had not received any amount. Please get the copy of Annexure K from previous organization” I even tried to get the help from some PF consultants but they were also not able to help me. I tried contacting my previous organization. They emailed me the scanned copy of documents they had regarding my accumulations. Finally after all this too many too and fro for more than 2 years I decided to take the route to RTI- RIGHT TO INFORMATION. (Thanks to some of my friends who motivated me to use RTI and guided me through the process) I filled an RTI with the RPFO of my previous employer on 30st Oct 2012. It was 2nd December. I had lost all my faith and thought nothing would happen. To my surprise, A letter came to my address on 3rd December 2012 with the subject line “Reply to RTI Application” I read through the letter and was excited to read it. It response contained the cheque numbers, dates and amount of transfers to my accounts under RPFO, Gurgaon. Also the point here is they had stated that they missed to transfer my complete amount and they had transferred the remaining amount on 20 Nov 2012. When enquired RPFO Gurgaon giving reference to my RTI and the response from RPFO for my previous employer, They said “We had received the amount but did not received the Annexure K. also it will take time for the approvals so call after 15 days” I called after 20 days they said they had not received the Annexure K. Asked me to get the annexure K. They again and again said “ You are located the Gurgaon. Please come to the office and talk to us in person”. I got a feeler why they wanted to meet me personally. Decided to file and RTI with Gurgaon RPFO, I filled the RTI on 24th December 2012. I received the response on 26th Jan 2013. The response had the copy of annexure K and a letter where they had said that they had receive the amount and same had been credited in my account. It had the details of my account statement as well. They also asked me to get this amount transferred to sapient PF trust. I had provided the response to the sapient finance team via helpdesk. I am happy that after so many too and fro, I finally got my entire PF transferred to one PF account. Now it’s up to Sapient PF trust to get the amount transferred from RPFC to them. A big thanks to the Right to information which helped me a big time. Helped me get my entire amount along with the interests which was lost somewhere in the books of account due to errors. Enabled me to get the work done in the government offices by their employees without giving any service charges to anyone. I am glad to share this feedback with all. I would be happy to help, if you require any, Please reach out to me on (xxxx@yyyy.com) POSTING OF EMAIL ID IS NOT ALLOWED

    Epf clarification

Hi, I work in a private limited company based in Bangalore, I worked with them for 4.6 yrs. The PF is a new account when I joined this company. When I resigned and recenly asked for PF withdrawal, they told that the amount is subject for 20% tax deduction as per the Income Tax notification. But I understand from EPFO that there is an exemption for them, but the company is going per the Income Tax notification. As my amount is huge, and by 20% tax deduction, I lose out a huge money. But I would like to withdraw my PF money for my home needs. Please let me know how can I get my full PF amount with any tax deduction. Thanks Biju
  17. A quick rundown on how to claim ‘unclaimed’ EPFO money Reported by Veeresh Malik in moneylife.com on Nov 28, 2012 http://www.moneylife.in/article/a-quick-rundown-on-how-to-claim-unclaimed-epfo-money/29883.html There may be substantial sums of money in your EPFO account even after withdrawal or settlement of your claim. Here’s a quick rundown on how you can claim unaccounted EPFO money In the ongoing crusade to find out more about the way the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) really works, I have been contacted by present, ex-employees and several others who are proving to be a great source of information, as long as their identities are kept confidential. You can read the earlier piece on EPFO here. One interesting fact that has been reconfirmed concerns those who have withdrawn their Provident Fund (PF) money as part of a claim, at any time in the past, literally from the inception of the EPFO onwards. It seems that the EPFO had an interesting way of calculating the balance and interest. They often accounted for money in your accounts till the end of the previous financial year only. Anything after that by way of interest earned, or contributions deposited by your employers, was kept in your account or in a suspense account of some sort. This is where it either languished forever, or was quietly siphoned out. There are several reasons for this: • The claimant had already pre-signed a blank pre-receipt with a Re1 revenue stamp. • The claimant did not know that even after ‘settlement’ there was money accruing in the PF account—as interest earned on balance and interest “not claimed” • The EPFO chose not to make any public announcements on this subject • There is no provision in the EPFO for anything but a ‘claim’ by a claimant • Being a retirement benefit in most cases, original contributors often did not have the wherewithal to fight it out • If the original contributor had passed away, then establishing bonafides as the claimant was difficult, if not impossible • Any enquiries on this were brushed aside with the answer that this was probably service charges or taxes deducted • This “left behind” money has long been considered a perquisite by certain people To give an example, let us say your last date of service was 30 June 2005. By the time you claimed for settlement of both EPFO contributions and pension it was anytime between end 2005 and early 2006, maybe even later. Your forms were, as usual, pre-receipted blank. This is what, most likely, would have happened: • Interest earned would typically have been calculated as on amount in your balance on 31 March 2005. Or the 31 March of the year preceding the date of claim. Some interest earned would not have been credited to your account at time of settlement • EPFO contributions for the last few months of service may or may not have been credited into your account till date of settlement with you. Transfers from other EPFO accounts may not have taken place. This happens often too. This amount would also then flow into your account, and linger there, earning interest • The EPFO itself may have declared bonus interest earned for some financial year period, before or after withdrawal, which also would then flow into your EPFO account Viewed dispassionately, and taking into account the manual calculations of the “least loss to EPFO” sort, it is not surprising that there are varying sums of money in EPFO accounts that by rights have had claimants already go through ‘settlements’. As of now, they continue to also earn interest and in all likelihood also remain tax-free on principal and interest earned. The interest earning element will discontinue if there has been no fresh contribution for three years. If you are, or have been, an EPFO claimant, or are a direct heir/nominee of an EPFO claimant, what do you need to do? If you do not have the EPFO account number of the claimant, file a Right to Information (RTI) query to the EPFO office, with as much detail as you can. Simultaneously, also approach the employers where the person worked, for details Armed with these details, file a second RTI on the relevant EPFO office seeking current balance in both Provident Fund as well as Pension accounts. Ask the EPFO to provide you with certified copies of this information Once you discover that there is indeed some amount of money still lying in your EPFO account, file a claim form Currently, the EPFO, in its wisdom, does not have a specific form for this sort of a secondary claim. It has been suggested by ex-employees that you file the relevant Form 19 (if the contributor is alive) or Form 20 (if contributor is deceased/incapable) and enclose a copy of the information on balance received by RTI application, along with a simple letter explaining why this is being claimed again. If the relevant EPFO office rejects the claim, then file it on the EPFO HQ by registered post and follow up using a judicious mix of the public grievance portal (:: Grievance Redress Mechanism in Government ::) as well as an RTI query. Good luck.
