Sub: Illegal selling of Custom Goods at dirt cheap price(Hawker) in front of Vinayak Apt, Deendayal Nagar, Vasai (W) by paying "Hafta" to Municipality Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing this on behalf of my father (Mohsin Matiwala). My father is an electrician and owns a shop in Vinayak Apt in Vasai (W), since he’s in his 70’s and is physically handicapped he has to give the shop on rent. The person whom we had last rented our shop to (Mohammed Younus Lakha), he was just not ready to vacate our shop, he ‘s like a local goon, and after lots of hardship (filing a complaint against him in police station and also greasing the hands of the police)we were able to vacate him. My father now no longer has the strength to run down your offices nor his spine has the tolerance to bow down at your feet and beg for you to do what is to be your work “Nagar Seva”. He has already greased the hands of the police for vacating this same man from his shop. The amount he paid is the amount that his wife has been using to feed the mouth of her household from the time she came to his house irrespective of inflation be high or low. This shop means a lot to him and is his only source of livelihood. But now because this local goon sells his illegal goods on the road right in front of the shop. Due to this our shop gets covered and no one is ready to take it on rent due to his fear. The entire Vinayak Apt Society too fears him. And past 4 months there is not a single tenant. Even after filing a complaint against him in Vasai Municipal Corporation and in Police Station no action has been taken. We also went to our area corporator, but he too simply dismissed the case. And now this goon threatened him saying "we know where all you went to file complaint against us, even if you go to Thane Municipality no one will help, since I give "Hafta". Please Help Us. Your's Sincerely, Daughter.
What should I do now ??? I received a direct threat from the Head of PA I received a call from one of the may be some clerk ( he just mentioned his name ) working in that office. He some how collected information about me of where I work and where I live. The Clerk asked me my intentions for filing RTIs. I said that I just wanted to get information, and I don't have to give any reasons for asking information. I also quoted sec. 6(2) of the ACT. The Clerk was not interested to hear that, and persisted that he wants my intentions. I asked him to write a letter to me. The clerk said that the information is ready and will be sent to me, but asked me not to go for second appeals to CIC.. I replied that if information is incomplete/misleading I will surely go for appeals.. Then the Clerk said that - " SIR " ( head of PA ) is really upset becoz of me, and that "SIR" can throw me out of my current job with just one call.... I replied him asking to provide the information that I asked for, and that I will not move for appeals if I am satisfied with the reply... The clerk replied that they have seen many people like me and that they will teach a lesson... I have some contacts in that Office ( they are against the Head of PA ), they confirmed that the " SIR " had used his influence to find my details like where I work, and other details. They also, gave me a hint that the " SIR has created an un-official gang made of his well wishers within the office and very often have lengthy discussions about how to stop me..
As reported by Sayli Udas Mankekar in hindustantimes.com on 19 February 2010: Threats after RTI plea? Cops to your rescue- Hindustan Times Threats after RTI plea? Cops to your rescue Social activists, including citizens filing applications under the Right To Information, will be given immediate police protection if there is threat to their lives. A circular issued by Commissioner of Police, D. Sivanandhan, on Thursday, says activists will be inducted into police-public coordination committee to address local issues. Sivanandhan’s circular asks the police to promptly take cognisance of complaints lodged by activists. Their request for police protection will also be expedited immediately. The move comes after attacks on two activists. Satish Shetty, Right To Information activist was allegedly murdered outside his home near Pune in January. Shetty was murdered days after unidentified persons fired outside Mumbai activist Nayana Kathpalia’s home in south Mumbai. The eight-point circular says if an activist files a complaint, the police should at least keep him or her informed about the facts of the case. It says the senior police inspector of the police station will attend to the case and the assistant commissioner of police will personally monitoring all such cases. Zonal and regional officers will periodically review them. The circular also calls for immediate arrests where required, and preventive action be taken where necessary. The circular also says that in cases where it is required, the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act can be invoked and the offender be externed. Activists welcomed the move. “Now we need to see it implemented,” said civic activist GR Vora. “The committees should be formed immediately and the machinery should be seen moving if any such incidences take place again.” Anandini Thakoor, chairperson of the H-West Citizens’ Trust agreed. “We already have the coordination committee in place in our ward,” said Thakoor. “But I think this circular should be extended to all citizens, since they are the ones who support activists.”
