A general suggestion to all new members, if you wanted to file RTI application, first file RTI Application to any known office and superscribe Public Information Officer (RTI).It is the responsibility of the concerned officer to transfer the same to concerned PIO within 5 days from receipt of that RTI Application. Kindly search their website if you wanted to know specifically the address. Avoid addressing PIO in name, as on transfer of that PIO, some offices may reject envelope stating no such officer. PIO..........Dept., is enough.

There is no limit in no of questions. But it is always prudent to be brief, specific and restrict to single issue and not to exceed 500 words, and avoid questions and seek information commencing...Please provide.....

(PIO has to provide information as available on record but some PIOs still cling on to old CIC decision that information sought should not be in interrogatory form)

> You may make reasonable efforts to locate the correct PIO who may be holding the information required by you:

But having done that, please be aware that if the PIO with whom you have filed the RTI Application, does not happen to hold the information required by you, then that PIO is supposed to transfer / forward your RTI Application to the correct PIO who may be holding the required information, and that he is not supposed to return the RTI Application back to you.

So make reasonable efforts to locate the correct PIO, but having done that, please go ahead and file your RTI Application.

> There is no limit to the number of points on which an information can be sought in a RTI Application.

However
you should ordinarily restrict the number of words to 500
in a RTI Application.

> Please note that as per the definition of information given under section 2(f) of the RTI Act, 2005, one cannot pose questions through a RTI to a Public Authority (PA), but one can only seek information already held in a material form by a PA (i.e. records, documents, memos, e-mails, opinions, advices, press releases, circulars, orders, logbooks, contracts, reports, papers, samples, models, data material held in any electronic form)

Therefore ideally one should begin all the information seeking points with the phrase "Please provide with a certified photocopy of the document, plan ....."
