Maharashtra: RTI misused? Widow, son demand justice

While the Right to Information (RTI) Act has largely been utilised as a noble implement, there continue to crop up exceptions to the intent with which it is wielded.

 

A city-based man has, under the cover of RTI and his saffron organisation — Hindu Ekta Andolan Party — allegedly been extorting a Dhankawadi- based widowed washing centre owner and her son for the last six months. The duo claim that after he was denied Rs 5,000 per month by them, Shailendra Dixit filed an RTI and pushed Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials to demolish their centre, which running on civic land on a lease for the last 30 years, near the underconstruction flyover at Bibwewadi.

When such saffron organisation misuses RTI Act in the state where ruling government is also of saffron party who will protect victimized poor people from extortion? Such, so called RTI activists should be booked under 'PASA'.
