The examination is one for any category and not separate to each category. But you must in your application should have stated the category, if they select cut off marks category wise.

In all selections / recruitments, where reservation quota is applied, the process involves selection of top 50% candidates from merit list as qualified in general standard, irrespective of their reservation category. Eg if the topper in Civil Services examination belongs to SC community, he shall not be considered for appointment as SC candidate, but shall be considered as General candidate for the purpose of appointment. Thereafter, to the extent of reservation in each category, the reserved category candidates are picked in accordance with merit.

Thus you can apply and appear for competitive exam either as General candidates or as OBC candidates. In case you are age-barred for general category, it is better to appear as OBC candidate for claiming age relaxation.

Thus, even if you apply against OBC category, but qualify examination securing marks above general vacancy cut-off, then you will be considered as selected on general category merit.
