Farm loan waiver not under consideration of Maha govt: RTI by Anil Galgali

RBI Governor, SBI Chairman and several Bank chairmen has specifically stated openly that loan waiver is not a good policy, and farmers who are capable of even repayment, postpone or never pay the dues, expecting such waivers from the Government.

These waiver promises by parties in individual states are vote catching plans. When there is crop insurance, waivers are not healthy propositions, and it is Banks that are suffering. Comparisons are made with large write offs / compromise settlement of business houses with that of farm loan waivers which may not appear proper, as large business waiver is linked to several aspects of indirect benefit to Govt already through taxes and other income.
