This is the main problem with NGOs filing RTIs.

Their main objective is to gain some headlines....and publicity so that they can show some "work" to their donors.

Main question to be asked is "where is the information lying ?" and "who is the custodian of the information". This NGO should have known that PDS is a State subject and filed the RTIs with the correct authorities. There was no use in filing the RTI with the PMO - which in any case transferred to Ministry and then to Districts.

Moreover, information on weeding out of Ration Cards is available on the websites of most States. One has to make an effort and search for it.

Just a lazy applicant and a lazier reporter (who did not do a fact check before writing this story)

The report is partially correct.

Applications have been filed before District Civil Supply officers on such issuing of Below poverty line Ration cards to Income Tax Assessees '

a)A PSU dealer who is earning Rs.5.00 lakhs,

b)An Advocate with heft fees.

The information was solicited with copy of such RTI application. Simply after 3 months the cards have been deleted, and simple information provided is Cards deleted, no further information is available on record.

The third query: Provide the action as per laid down norms against such false and ineligible candidates using the card and process that states the recovery, remain unanswered.

Now that APIC is defunct (even when it is functioning, it is not that effective) to avoid unnecessary correspondence further second appeals were dropped.

What is a fake ration card ?

Printing of fake ration card or

Citizens getting such ration card without any eligibility.

Civil supplies dept., has accessed PAN CARD details, identified those who have claimed those that are not eligible and weeded those cards.

As even Government servants have secured those cards for availing educational concessions and other benefits to their children, those were weeded out.

There is another scam on such weeding out. The ration shop owners on the basis of non usage of regular rations, were provided the passwords of the officials and they have got it weeded through internet centers with those details, and for carrying out this exercise, lot of amounts were shown as spent for door to door survey, which is factually incorrect.

I find relevance of these incident in weeding out exercises of the ration cards, and hence responded.
