(1) After filing RTI, if PIO wants to inform me about documents charges, then will he supposed to call me, or will he supposed to send letter by post? (As per RTI rules)

(2) Before sending asked documents to me, can PIO show this to me by WhatsApp or email or call to get confirm weather they are right desired document or not?

(3) And Then how I have to pay for those documents and postage charges? either via in form of Indian postal orders, court fees or online money transfer? Or they will jus send reply documents by VPP post?

This is the stipulation in RTI Act on such fees:

Q 1 & 3

SEC. 7 3) Where a decision is taken to provide the information on payment of any further fee representing the cost of providing the information, the Central Public Information Officer or State Public Information Officer, as the case may be, shall send an intimation to the person making the request, giving—

(a) the details of further fees representing the cost of providing the information as determined by him, together with the calculations made to arrive at the amount in accordance with fee prescribed under sub- section (1), requesting him to deposit that fees, and the period intervening between the despatch of the said intimation and payment of fees shall be excluded for the purpose of calculating the period of thirty days referred to in that sub-section.

Hence the rules and regulations applicable authority prevails for demand, mode and collection of fees.

Q2: 2) "Before sending asked documents to me, can PIO show this to me by WhatsApp or email or call to get confirm weather they are right desired document or not?

REPLY: There is no such procedure.  Applicant should seek information in the form of inspection, select such documents that are required by listing out such marked documents, and then applicant can seek such certified copies by paying fees in the modes stated in rules and regulations of that Authority.

I asked this because sometimes PIO may say at appeal officer that we called applicant at his given phone number for giving information about document copies charges, but his phone was off/ out of reach... that's why we not replied thru letter (for telling document charges) And thus not given answer to Filed RTI

We in the forum focus only on getting information at the earliest, and whether it is oral or in writing, we do not question PIO if he is prepared to provide such certified copies that costs very nominal (Xerox charges), when the benefit to applicant is several hundred times more through such documents.
