Do NGOs come under RTI

Dear Friends,

Do NGOs come under the RTI ? If No how can we know how they are spending govt/foreign funds?

If the NGO is substantially financed by the State or Central Government or receives any other material support, etc., then it is covered under RTI.

 

Please see the definition of "Public Authority" as in Sec 2(h) of the RTI Act.

Had asked for information from a public trust about details of their accounts , the said trust has sent me a reply and a cc to the pio stateing that they cannot dislose the information as they are a NGO which does not recieve any financial aid from the public authority as defined in the said act hence we are not obliged to furnish such informaiton.

is it so that i cannot ask for any information about the accounts.

most of the trust for the benefit of IT exemption will be submitting there balance sheet to IT department. So apply to IT department for the balance sheet submitted by the trust to the government.
