BPL families exempted from fee under RTI

Himachal Pradesh government in order to make Right to Information Act (RTE) pro poor people , on Tuesday exempted families falling under below poverty line (BPL) from fee required to get information under the act.


" Under provision 5 (1) of Himachal Pradesh Right to Information Act 2006 persons belonging to below poverty line (BPL) have been exempted from fee for getting information. Other categories including Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes will have to deposit the prescribed fee," an Official Spokesman of State Government said.


The spokesperson said that only the persons belonging to Below Poverty Line and identified by the state government will be provided information free of cost.

This "Himachal Pradesh Right to Information Act 2006" - has anyone heard anything about it earlier?


Seems like crass misreporting. Most probably the spokesperson was just explaining existing position, not announcing something new.
