Dear Member,

Welcome to RTI India.

Insurance companies are private bodies and may not directly entertain RTI applicants but they all are registered with IRDA. If it is a matter of Policy / Procedures etc., same must have been filed with IRDA. You can make an RTI application to Public Information Officer, IRDA to get the same.

Yes, Other than LIC, which is wholly owned by Govt. of India, following four Insurance Cos. are in Public Sector and hence directly accessible under RTI

National Insurance Company

New India Assurance Co Ltd

Oriental Insurance Co Ltd

United India Insurance Co Ltd

Other Private Insurance Cos can be accessed through IRDA.

Most of these companies have designated their branch/division heads as ACPIO under RTI hence you can submit application at any branch by paying Rs.10 in cash and amending clause 4 of RTI application to read as "Filing Fee: Paid Rs.10 in cash to ACPIO" and obtaining dated acknowledgement on photocopy of RTI application from branch head with his rubber stamp.

In case of private sector insurance companies you may file RTI with IRDA by referring:
