as per rti..organisation cannot ask for info which a citizen can recieve ? is it true?

In response to a RTI query to the Maharashtra electricityboard, there was a funny reply stating that information I asked for can begiven or provided to an individual only and not to and NGO. Can anyoneenlighten me regarding any such clause stated in the act? If it is so by which clauseor subclause the machinery is, specifically, if it is, government undertaking forconsumers which is answerable to the public at large whether it is anindividual or a NGO.

RTI Section 3 states that this right is applicable to 'all citizens of India' and hence NGOs are not covered, no matter what the NGO does. Hence while making an RTI application mention the name of the person and verify that the person is an Indian citizen. Some state rules require that a copy of voters card or passport be attached to RTI application.

You may use your letter pad for filing RTI Appication if you wish but always mention your name as applicant and your designation and address after wards.

Like that you please sign your name and not for the organisation,

If you wish you may sign, and write your name, designation, and society address below your signature.

When PIO implement rules strictly, you must also explore the ways how to circumvent the same.

You might have gone through earlier posts to get the exact idea and agree with PIO decision.

However you may also peruse attached decision of CIC and file first appeal. It is advisable to file RTI in individual name and at the end you may mention that you are [your designation] of NGO.
