Are Private Banks under RTI ?

Hi,

I just want to know whether private banks like ICICI,AXIS,HDFC,Kotak Mahindra comes under RTI Act? If not then how to get information from them? what are the other sources? if they are not covered under RTI,then they can do anything in the transactions.

A fictitious account was opened in Axis bank and a cheque to the tune of 4.00 lacs was encashed.When this came to the notice of the real owner of the cheque,he approached the Axis bank but the bank is nbot ready to give the details nor it is ready to file the complaint with the Police authorities.

So here in this case how to deal with the Axis Bank?

Private banks are not under RTI. However you can get their information through RBI by referring:

If bank is not filing police complaint, the person who lost the money [drawer of cheque or payee of cheque or holder-in-due course] can file police complaint. Police will investigate the matter.

 

You may scale up non-cooperation of the bank to this fraud by writing to Bank's H. O. and also e-file complaint on its website.

 

You can also separately e-file complaint on Reserve Bank of India - India's Central Bank complaining interalia that KYC norms are not complied with in this account and enquiry be ordered.
